You should not have to look up every item
Get the appThese are typical figures. The date on the packaging and how you stored it always come first. Once a pack is open, or if the smell or look has changed, trust your senses over any table.
Frequently asked questions
- Where do these figures come from?
- From the same shelf-life table the freshIt app uses. It is generated automatically from the app's source, so the days shown here match the dates the app gives.
- What if the packaging says something different?
- The packaging wins. These figures are for food that carries no date — loose vegetables, fruit, bread from the counter — and for the period after a pack has been opened.
- Does frozen food really keep that long?
- In a freezer food usually stays safe, but flavour and texture degrade over time. The freezer figures here show the window in which it is still worth eating.
- My food is not in the list.
- Try the category rather than the exact product — "cheese" rather than a variety, "meat" rather than a cut. Scanning a receipt in the app assigns each item to the right category automatically.
