These are typical figures. The date on the packaging and how you stored it always come first. Once a pack is open, or if the smell or look has changed, trust your senses over any table.

Frequently asked questions

Where do these figures come from?
From the same shelf-life table the freshIt app uses. It is generated automatically from the app's source, so the days shown here match the dates the app gives.
What if the packaging says something different?
The packaging wins. These figures are for food that carries no date — loose vegetables, fruit, bread from the counter — and for the period after a pack has been opened.
Does frozen food really keep that long?
In a freezer food usually stays safe, but flavour and texture degrade over time. The freezer figures here show the window in which it is still worth eating.
My food is not in the list.
Try the category rather than the exact product — "cheese" rather than a variety, "meat" rather than a cut. Scanning a receipt in the app assigns each item to the right category automatically.

You should not have to look up every item

Photograph your grocery receipt; freshIt reads the items, dates each one from this table and reminds you before it spoils.
